Weekly Update (17/02/2022)

Over the past week, I didn't get enough time to do studio work, so for the time being I have been tidying up my blog. Over on streaming, I have been digging into more of Kendrick Lamar's discography and had been listening to his unreleased J. Cole collaboration "Black Friday" - in the track, Lamar raps original lyrics over Cole's "A Tale Of 2 Citiez" beat and Cole raps original lyrics over Lamar's "Alright" beat. This has given me more inspiration for song lyrics - last night, I started thinking of a tense story to tell over the beat of "A Tale Of 2 Citiez" and will begin writing soon. Elsewhere, I have branched out of hip-hop and R&B, and have been listening to plenty of pop music, most of them by upcoming pop acts. Here are 9 pop songs that have been on rotation for me this past week: London Is Lonely - Holly Humberstone Fingers Crossed - Lauren Spencer-Smith hope ur ok - Olivia Rodrigo Sacrifice - The Weeknd abcdefu - GAYLE...

Music I Have Been Listening To Recently (15/02/2022)

I listen to music for enjoyment rather than inspiration but there have been songs I listened to a lot, either because the music inspires me or I simply enjoy them. Here's nine of them, and I will be giving a brief summary of the song's genre and lyrics.  Someone Else - Private Zero This song is chill drill from an upcoming UK rapper based in London called Private Zero. The song lyrically details a breakup and how hurt and guilty Zero is by it, however in the second verse he talks about how he has moved on. The song has a female vocal sample in the intro and after the chorus, and an acoustic guitar melody over a trap beat, making this a song you can vibe to and chill to. A lot of Kendrick Lamar As stated in my EPK, Kendrick is my favourite artist. He hasn't released any original music since 2018, so I am currently awaiting a new song by him, however there are rumours he will release a new album this year. Wasted - Digga D & ArrDee This is a catchy drill tune that samples...

Thinking About My Recordings

I am currently in the middle of writing a melodic rap song called "your vibe", and have found a suitable beat for it on YouTube. I feel that when I've finished my first draft, I will present the song to fellow coursemates and get some feedback on what they liked about it and what they feel like I can improve on it, before I feel comfortable recording it. Once I've finished writing the lyrics, I will send the beat over to a coursemate who can download the file and insert it onto Cubase.
